Abstract
In practice, students may naturally experience situations called learning barriers. For this reason, the purpose of this study was to describe students' learning barriers in solving word problems about material opportunities. The method used in this study was the Didactical Design Research (DDR) model with 3 class VIII students at SMP Negeri 20 Kupang as the subject. The instruments used were validated test questions, interviews and observation sheets. The results of this study indicate that the three subjects were unable to complete the three indicators, namely ontogenic, didactic and epistemological barriers. there is no unpreparedness of students to learn mathematics both from the mental, emotional, learning needs, and knowledge of students. In the knowledge students experience mistakes in working on the given opportunity word problems, starting from errors in addition, subtraction, addition, and division of numbers, as well as confusion in the steps for working on the questions
