Abstract
Vocal ensemble is a musical activity presented using the human voice which is generally called singing. Usually vocal groups, also called vocal ensembles, consist of 3 to 12 people. Dynamics is the strength of sound, and the sign of dynamics is a sign of strong and soft statements of sound presentation. SMA Negeri 2 Kupang is one of the schools that always features vocal groups but they have never performed acapella. The problem behind this research is how the process of interpretation of dynamics in singing a cappella vocal ensemble with the song Angel mode (Sarah Mclachlan) on students of music interest SMA Negeri 2 Kupang. Based on this problem, this research aims to describe the process of interpreting the dynamics in singing acapella vocal ensemble with drill and imitation methods. The research method used, is a qualitative description that describes the process of applying the interpretation of acapella vocal ensemble dynamics from the initial stage, the core stage and the final stage. The data source of this research is from students of class XI IPA 3 SMA Negeri 2 Kupang. The data collection techniques used were observation, interview and documentation. The results showed that the process of interpreting the dynamics of acapella vocal ensemble was carried out in the following 3 stages: the initial stage, recruitment of research subjects, and determining the rehearsal schedule; the core stage, practicing etude dynamics and the application of dynamic interpretation, namely piano, mezzoforte, forte and Decrescendo in the song Angel (Sarah Mclachlan); and the final stage, displaying the results of dynamic interpretation. Based on the discussion of the results of this study, it can be concluded that the understanding and skills of students singing the song Angel (Sarah Mclachlan) have gotten pretty good results in interpreting the dynamics.
