Abstract
This research is a qualitative descriptive research with the aim of knowing and describing students' difficulties in solving mathematical story problems of fractional number calculation operation material. The subjects in this study were grade VII students totaling 3 students, each of which was categorized as high, medium and low. Data collection was conducted through written tests and interviews. The collected data is analyzed based on the stages of transcribing data, validating data, reducing data, presenting data and making conclusions. Overall, the results of the study show indications that students experience difficulties including, students cannot solve problems correctly, students are not able to sequence the solving steps correctly, students are not able to change story problems in mathematical models, and students have difficulty in numeracy skills. From the results of the analysis, it was concluded that the difficulties of students in solving the material problems of calculating fractional numbers were difficulties in understanding concepts, difficulties in procedural and difficulties in counting skills.
