Abstract

The conception that mathematics is difficult is a conception that is generally considered to be able to undermine students' enthusiasm and reduce their interest in learning. But there is a student's ability in the form of Adversity Quotient (AQ), namely people's ability to face problems or difficulties. Therefore, researchers want to examine students' interest in learning based on the conception that mathematics is difficult. The research was conducted at SMPK Giovanni Kupang and the type of research was descriptive qualitative. The subjects were 6 people and were selected based on the analysis of two questionnaires, namely the questionnaire regarding the conception of mathematics as difficult and the questionnaire regarding students' interest in learning mathematics. In research, testing the accuracy and validity of data uses triangulation methods, namely observation, questionnaires and interviews. From the research results, it was found that based on the results of the questionnaire studied, specifically in class IX of Giovanni Kupang Junior High School, totaling 27 students and it was found that 13 students had a difficult conception of mathematics with a tendency for high interest in learning, namely 2 people, medium namely 9 people and low namely 2 people. Based on the observation sheet of 6 students, it is known that students have a tendency to be interested in learning from the results of the questionnaire and the results of the interviews are also appropriate. So it can be concluded that the learning interest of students who have a difficult conception of mathematics consists of three, namely high, medium and low.
