Abstract

Critical thinking ability is the ability to think at a complex level, to perform analysis, create and use criteria objectively, and evaluate data. The scientific approach is an approach that provides learning experiences for students to construct their knowledge through scientific activities. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of learning by applying a scientific approach, knowing students' critical thinking skills, knowing whether or not there is a relationship between critical thinking skills and student learning outcomes, and knowing whether there is influence or not the ability to think critically on student learning outcomes in learning that applies a scientific approach to the subject matter of Buffer Solution for class XI MIA students at SMA Negeri 3 Kupang for the 2022/2023 academic year. This type of research is descriptive-associative. The sample in this study was 36 students of class XI MIPA 5 at SMA Negeri 3 Kupang. based on the results of data analysis it can be concluded that (1) learning by applying an effective scientific approach namely (a) the teacher's ability to manage learning is included in the good category, (b) the completeness of the learning outcomes of KI 3 and KI 4 is declared complete, (2) the ability to think critically students in class XI MIPA 5 SMA Negeri 3 Kupang for the academic year 2022/2023 are included in the good category, (3) there is a relationship between the ability to think critically and the learning outcomes of students by applying a scientific approach, (4) there is an effect of the ability to think critically on the learning outcomes of participants students by applying a scientific approach.
