Abstract

This study aims to determine whether there is an effect of students' perceptions of teacher characteristics and interest in learning on the mathematics learning achievement of grade VIII students of SMPN 10 Kupang. This type of study is quantitative study with work procedures including validity tests, classical assumption tests, and hypothesis testing. The population in this study was all VIII grade students of SMPN 10 Kupang which amounted to 109 students, while the sample used was 86 students who were randomly selected. Data collection for student perceptions of teacher characteristics, and student interest in learning was done through questionnaires. Data analysis used Pearson Product Moment correlation technique. The results of this study indicate that there is an influence between the independent variable X on the dependent variable Y, where the contribution of the independent variable X individually to the dependent variable Y is 53% and 6.1%, and together is 84,5%. This means that the independent variable X has a strong enough influence on the dependent variable Y. So it can be concluded that students' perceptions of teacher characteristics and learning interests greatly affect student achievement.
