Abstract

The sae kaba dance is one of the dances that contains the highest sacred value when compared to other dances in the Manggarai area. The sae kaba dance is only performed during the paki kaba ceremony. This dance is a type of mass dance and has a role as a means of summoning the spirits of the ancestors and also as a means of expressing gratitude to the spirits of the ancestors. The main problem in this research is how the sae kaba dance is presented and what role the sae kaba dance plays in the paki kaba ceremony in Mandosawu Village, South Lamba Leda District, East Manggarai Regency. This research aims to determine the form of presentation of the sae kaba dance and the role of the sae kaba dance in the paki kaba ceremony. This research was conducted using a qualitative descriptive research approach and using field action methods. Data collection techniques were carried out by means of observation, interviews and documentation. In this research, researchers involved trusted informants such as traditional elders, teno elders, spiritual spokespeople, people who are trusted as informants, and local government officials. The research results show that the Sae Kaba dance is a sacred dance and has a unique form of presentation and a very important role in the Paki Kaba ceremony. It is said to be unique because this dance is a mass dance that does not have a fixed variety, but can be performed with full unity according to the rhythm of the music sung by the musicians, and this dance also has an important role as a dance that summons the spirits of ancestors and as a dance. expression of gratitude to God Almighty. Based on research results, the Sae Kaba dance functions as a means of expressing gratitude for the abundant blessings that have been received from the ancestors.
