Abstract
This thesis is titled "Efforts of Oms Bengkel APPeK in Rehabilitating the Mental State of Children Post-Cyclone Storm Seroja in the Naibonat Village in 2021." The problem formulation in this thesis is "How are the efforts of Oms Bengkel APPeK in rehabilitating the mental state of children post-Cyclone Storm Seroja in the Naibonat Village in 2021." The theory used by the researcher to address the research problem is Empowerment and Rehabilitation. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method. The primary data source is the informants, while secondary data includes documents related to the research variables. Data collection techniques include interviews, observations, and documentation. The data analysis process involves data reduction, data presentation, drawing conclusions, and qualitative descriptive analysis. The research findings indicate that (1) a child-friendly recreational space, involving the provision and addition of child-friendly play equipment such as swings and slides, helps restore the emotional balance of children, provides space for self-expression, and alleviates the stress they experience. (2) A psychosocial child-friendly space involves providing education to children about education conducted by Bengkel APPeK in rehabilitating the mental state of children post-Cyclone Storm Seroja through the delivery of material on the concepts of safety and disaster preparedness. This enables children to understand how to protect themselves and their families in the future, introducing disaster response concepts, including evacuation routes, family planning depicted in child-friendly images and language that is gentle and easily understood by children, as well as simulations or evacuation drills with predefined roles to familiarize children with emergency procedures. This is done to help reduce anxiety because they already know what to expect. (3) A psychosocial child-friendly space involves drawing activities conducted by Bengkel APPeK in rehabilitating the mental state of children post-Cyclone Storm Seroja, which can help children temporarily forget the daily pressures and stresses caused by the storm and provide children with a way to slowly express their feelings through drawing activities. Relaxation activities carried out by Bengkel APPeK in rehabilitating the mental state of children post-Cyclone Storm Seroja have reduced stress and anxiety in children after experiencing traumatic events, helping them feel safer, build confidence, and develop an understanding that they can overcome the challenges they face. It also enhances their focus and concentration in the learning process and their psychological recovery. Based on the above analysis, the author concludes that Bengkel APPeK has successfully rehabilitated the mental state of children post-Cyclone Storm Seroja through child-friendly recreational spaces, child-friendly psychosocial education spaces, and child-friendly psychosocial spaces.
