Abstract

This research is a qualitative research that aims to obtain an overview of solving mathematical problems of high school students based on confidence and motivation on matrix material. This research was conducted at SMAN 2 Kupang in the even semester of the 2023/2024 academic year. The subjects in this study were two class, consisting of 1 student with confidence and high motivation and 1 student with confidence and low motivation who was selected based on the results of the self-confidence and motivation questionnaire. Data collection in this study used questionnaires, problem-solving tasks and interviews. The data analysis technique used in this study consists of three stages, namely data reduction, presentation and conclusion drawing. The results of this study showed that subjects with high self-confidence and motivation were able to meet the four indicators of mathematical problem solving, namely understanding problems, making plans, implementing plans and re-checking while subjects with low confidence and motivation only met two indicators of mathematical problem solving, namely understanding problems and making plans. From this study, researchers recommend teachers to pay more attention to students who have low self-confidence and low motivation in explaining information, especially in solving mathematical problems, for students to be more courageous and have the desire to master material concepts before solving the given problems And for researchers next can add students with moderate confidence and moderate motivation and can research about mathematical problem solving skills based on self-confidence and learning motivation.
