Abstract

Utilizing qualitative methodology with a case study approach, the research involved 7 informants from diverse backgrounds, including traditional weavers, customary leaders, village officials, local community members, and traders. The research identified three primary preservation indicators: conservation, reconstruction, and adaptation. Conservation is demonstrated through a commitment to maintaining traditional techniques and using high-quality natural materials. The symbolic aspects of weaving motifs are highly valued as representations of cultural identity, with usage regulated through customary policies.Reconstruction involves rebuilding lost cultural elements based on historical evidence, while paying attention to original meanings and market preferences. The role of customary leaders is crucial in preserving authenticity and educating the community about the historical significance of motifs.Adaptation focuses on enriching traditional designs through external influences, with careful selection to maintain original characteristics. The research emphasizes the importance of collaboration between weavers, customary leaders, and the community in maintaining a balance between tradition preservation and innovation. The conclusion indicates that this comprehensive approach allows Songke weaving to develop as a dynamic cultural heritage relevant to future generations.
