Abstract

This study is entitled “A Study on the Influence of Digital Comics on the Students’ Writing Ability of Narrative Text in Rosa Mystica Junior High School”. The purpose of this study is to find out whether digital comic has a positive influence on the narrative writing ability of Junior High School students and to identify the steps in implementing digital comic in learning to write narrative text to Rosa Mystica Junior High School. The method used in this study was Classroom Action Research (CAR) with one cycle. The participants were 16 students from class VII at SMPK Rosa Mystica Kupang. The instruments used were pre-test, post-test, observation sheets and lesson plans. The results show that the use of digital comics has a positive effect in improving students' narrative text writing skills. This can be seen from the increase in the students’ average score from the pre-test (50,00) to the post-test (77,5). Among the five aspects of assessment, content aspect gets 78.13%, organization 87,5%, grammar 68,75%, vocabulary 81,25% and mechanics 76,56%. Students also showed high confidence and participation after learning through digital comics. The researcher suggested that teachers can use digital comics as a learning medium both in the school being researched and in other schools. For future researchers, it is recommended to conduct the same research with the focus on writing other types of narrative texts such as writing memorable experiences, biographies and writing novels.
