Abstract

The Artificial Harmonic technique is a way of playing strings to produce higher pitches using finger touch techniques. Students in the music education program are less familiar with the artificial harmonic technique in guitar playing. The issue raised in this research is how to implement the Artificial Harmonic technique on acoustic guitar with the song The Scientist. The purpose of this research is to understand the process of applying the artificial harmonic technique in acoustic guitar playing with the song The Scientist using the Drill method. This research is qualitative in nature and the method used in this research is field action research. The process of obtaining data uses literature study and field study through observation and documentation. The learning process uses the Drill method. The results of the study show that the implementation of the artificial harmonic technique begins with providing an overview of the artificial harmonic technique and examples of playing the technique, followed by practicing and playing the etude along with the sheet music of The Scientist. The final result of the learning process is that students can play the song The Scientist using the artificial harmonic technique. The benefit gained is that students acquire knowledge about the artificial harmonic technique in playing the guitar. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that the effort to apply the artificial harmonic technique to the song The Scientist by Crist Martin using the drill method is very effective in improving guitar playing skills, especially melodies, among music education program students in their fourth semester. This is proven by the students' ability to play the song's score well, although not perfectly.
