Abstract

This thesis is entitled “The Meaning of Symbols in the Te'in Tula Ritual in the Hamis Batar Tradition (Case Study of the Uma Maktaen Tribe, Lawalu Village, Central Malaka District, Malaka Regency)”. The te'in tula ritual is a tradition carried out at the beginning of each year after the hamis batar tradition. This ritual is performed as an expression of gratitude to the ancestors for a successful harvest at the beginning of the new year. The method used was descriptive. The primary data sources were informants, while the secondary data were data related to the research variables. The data collection techniques used were interviews, observation, and documentation. The data analysis technique used was qualitative descriptive analysis. The results of the study show that the symbols and meanings contained in the te'in tula ritual in the hamis batar tradition are the symbols of white chicken, rote corn, and rice. Meanwhile, the meanings are religious, unity, gratitude and thanks, life, success, and abundance. The religious, gratitude, and thanks meanings are believing in God, asking for protection, asking for blessings, and always being healthy.
