Abstract

Writing scientific papers aims to determine students' self-confidence and mathematical understanding as well as their relation which is studied theoretically. The results of this scientific paper study conclude that the attitude of students' self-confidence is very dependent on the students themselves to want to develop the attitude of self-confidence that exists in these students, in addition to fostering an attitude of student self-confidence cannot be separated from the role of a teacher or educator who good so that it can help develop students' self-confidence attitudes. Simply put, the main constituent of students' self confidence in mathematics learning is formed by the interaction of students both with teachers and with fellow students and learning activities that are challenging and fun to create good self-confidence. Students' mathematical understanding depends on students' efforts in achieving indicators of students' mathematical understanding. Apart from the efforts of the students themselves, there is also need for encouragement from the teacher and the teaching principles of the subject teacher to direct students to achieve a solid and more maximal mathematical understanding. If students have a good self-confidence attitude, then the resulting mathematical understanding ability is also good. Likewise, vice versa. If students lack or do not have a self-confident attitude, then they will have problems in their mathematical understanding abilities.
