Abstract

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the Indonesian Minister of Education issued a policy so that the learning process that had been carried out face-to-face was converted into online learning. The shift from conventional learning to online learning is very sudden, without proper preparation. Some teachers in schools admit that online learning is not as effective as conventional learning activities, because some materials must be explained directly and completely, especially in learning mathematics. Online learning cannot be separated from the internet network and becomes one of the obstacles for students who live in the suburbs. However, the teacher must ensure that teaching and learning activities continue, even though students are at home. Teachers are required to design learning as an innovation by utilizing online media. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of online learning and learning achievement of SMP class VIII students on the subject of relations and functions. The type of research used in this research is quantitative research with a descriptive approach. The population in this study were all class VIII SMP St. Theresia 1 East Kupang for the 2020/2021 academic year which consists of two classes. The sample in this study was one class which was taken randomly using simple random sampling technique. The data collection instrument used a questionnaire and a test (daily test). From the results of the analysis using Microsoft Excel 2016, overall the online learning effectiveness questionnaire reached a percentage of 68%. Meanwhile, when viewed from the achievement of learning achievement indicators taught using online- based learning, it is categorized as good with a percentage of 66%. Based on the description above, it can be concluded that online learning is effectively applied in class VIII SMP students on the subject of relations and functions.
