Abstract

This research is a qualitative research that aims to describe the ability of students to understand the concept of square and rectangular material. The subjects in this study were three class VIII students with high, medium and low abilities. The data collected was in the form of a concept understanding test that was explored through interviews based on indicators on the ability to understand concepts which consisted of restating a concept, using and utilizing and selecting certain procedures or operations and applying the concept of algorithms in problem solving. Data analysis includes data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Checking the validity of the data using time triangulation. After the data was presented and analyzed, it was concluded that high-ability students met all three indicators, moderately capable students met two indicators and low-ability students did not meet all indicators.
