Abstract

The development of these teaching materials is based on the difficulty of implementing mathematics learning in the classroom because students do not understand the information and existing learning resources. In addition, researchers found the fact that there was still a lack of knowledge of students about the existing local culture and its relation to mathematics learning. In fact, bassicaly that culture is something that is close to the environment of students and which is always present in every student's life. Thus, through local culture-based teaching materials, it is hoped that students will be motivated to learn in order to gain broad knowledge about culture and be able to understand the values contained in each local culture. This study aims to develop teaching materials based on local culture in class VII that are valid, practical, and effective in order to provide information and knowledge to students bout what is in the surrounding environment (local culture) with the material learned in the learning process. Meanwhile, the method used in this study is the four-D method including define, design,development, and disseminate. Data analysis techniques include validity analysis, practicality analysis, and effectiveness of teaching materials which was developed based on expert judgment, teacher and student responses. The results showed that the developed handout teaching materials met the validity category with a score of 4.38 indicating good quality, fulfilling the practicality category with a score of 4.09, and meeting the effectiveness category with a percentage of 83.33% indicating a good practicality value. The three analyzes show that the handout teaching materials meet the valid and practical and effective categories and can be used as an alternative in learning.
