Abstract

This study aims to analyze the mathematical reasoning of male and female students in solving number problems. This type of research is qualitative research, the subject of this research are students of class VII, SMP St. Yosep NaikotenKupang, which consists of one male student and one female student who are categorized as having relatively high mathematical abilities obtained from the school based on the results of discussions with the mathematics teacher in according to the reported value. The types of tests used in this study were written tests (descriptions) and interviews. In the description test, students are required to be able to express their ideas through reasoning which is poured through written language. The activities in data analysis consists of three paths, namely: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. This study found that the reasoning of male and female students tended to be different. Male students used more flexible solution than female students. While female students are less careful and less thorough and communicate the ideas that are put forward.
