Abstract

he formulation of the problem from this research is how are the characteristics of the questions in the math book class VIII semester 1 in terms of the cognitive aspect of TIMSS? This study aims to describe the characteristics of the problems in the math book class VIII semester 1 in terms of cognitive aspects of TIMSS. The method used in this study is a qualitative method with content analysis. The objects of this research include material objects and formal objects. The material object in this book is a math book for class VIII semester 1. The formal object in this research is the cognitive aspect of TIMSS which includes knowledge (knowing), application (applying) and reasoning (reasoning). The data in this research is a matter of semester 1 competency test. The results of the analysis carried out on 34 numbered questions, the cognitive aspect of applying which has the highest percentage is 55.88% with a total of 19 questions. The percentage of the cognitive aspect of reasoning is 29.41% with a total of 10 questions and the percentage of cognitive knowing is 14.70% with a total of 5 questions.
