Abstract

This study aims to describe how the profile of the understanding of the circle concept in the students of St. Catholic Junior High School. Theresia Kupang. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. Data collection is done through the provision of problem solving tests (TPM) and interviews after completing the TPM. To test the credibility of the data, time triangulation was carried out. Data analysis was carried out in three stages, namely data reduction, data presentation and data inference. The results of this study indicate that subjects who have a high category understanding of concepts in solving problems are able to understand, are able to express things that are known and asked and are able to conclude the results of their work well so that the subject is declared to be able to meet the three indicators of concept understanding, namely translation, interpretation and extrapolation. The subject of understanding the concept of the medium category in solving problems in TMP I and TPM II the subject is able to understand, able to express things that are known and solve the problem but is not able to conclude his work properly so that the subject is declared to meet two indicators of concept understanding, namely translation and interpretation, while the subject who capable of low category in solving problems the subject is able to understand, able to express things that are known and unable to solve the problem properly and precisely so that the subject is declared to meet one indicator of concept understanding, namely translation.
