Abstract
Sato is a stringed musical instrument originating from Waturaka Village, Kelimutu District, Ende Regency. Generally, sato is played by swiping, using a bow made of palm fiber rope. Sato musical instrument Initially made from maja fruit or forest anchor which in the Ende local language is called mbambo. Sato musical instrument existence began to disappear due to the development of the times and modernization. So, this study aims to determine the orgonology of traditional Sato musical instruments in the people of Waturaka Village, Kelimutu District, Ende Regency. This research is descriptive qualitative, that is, it describes the background of the creation of the sato musical instrument, including the research location, the selection of tools and materials, the process for processing materials, the structure of the shape of the sato musical instrument, as well as the assembly to finishing process. Data collection techniques used in this study were observation, documentation, and interviews involving Mr. Marsehelinus Satu himself as the main resource person in the study. While the data analysis technique used is a qualitative data analysis technique which includes content analysis, discourse analysis, and narrative analysis which aims to describe and explain research data so that it is understood by others. The results of this study are the creation of the Sato musical instrument which is played by swiping on the strings to produce Do, RE, Mi, Fa, and Sol tones. The research process includes the process of determining materials, taking materials, working processes, assembling processes, finishing processes to Sato musical instruments producing sounds. From this study, it can be concluded that the Sato musical instrument is a melodic musical instrument because the instrument only plays scales.
