Abstract

SMAK Sint Carolus Kupang has many activities carried out by students to develop their talents and interests including extracurricular activities. One of the extracurricular activities that are often carried out to develop the talents and interests of students is the choir. Therefore, researchers carried out research activities at the institution, namely applying the vocal articulation technique in singing Gregorian pater noster songs through imitation and drill methods. There are obstacles faced when singing Gregorian songs, namely the students have not applied how to sing Gregorian pater noster songs with good and correct pronunciation.The formulation of the problem made by the researcher is how to apply the Gregorian vocal articulation technique of Pater Noster's song through imitation and drill methods. The purpose of the researcher is to describe the learning process of how to sing Gregorian song Pater Noster by using proper articulation through imitation and drill methods to students interested in the choir of SMAK Sint Carolus Kupang. The type of research used is a type of qualitative research. The method used in this research is a field action research method. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation.The results of this study indicate that using the imitation and drill method which was carried out for 8 meetings can provide quite effective learning outcomes. In the process of this research, the research subjects practiced repeatedly and imitated by paying attention to the examples given by the researcher during the research process, so that in the end the research subjects were able to understand every material given by the researcher. This research process takes place in three stages, namely the initial stage, the core stage and the final stage. At the initial stage, the researcher recruited students who were interested in similar choirs. Furthermore, at the core stage, the researcher provided material, namely how to sing gregorian, articulation techniques in this case the pronunciation of Latin in the song of Pater Noster, etude exercises and the application of articulation of the song of pater noster. Then for the final stage, the researcher displays a video of the research results when the researcher does the thesis exam.Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the imitation and drill method is the right method in learning how to sing Gregorian songs using ariculation techniques properly and correctly.
