Abstract
The problem in this study is student’s difficulty on relating mathematics into daily life situation specially their culture life so that their learning achievement far from satisfaction. This study aims to determine whether or not the effect of Probing-Prompting based culture learning model to student’s learning achievement in subject of cube and cuboid of grade VIII A SMPK St. Theresia Kupang on 2016/2017 academic year. Samples were students of class VIII A SMPK St. Theresia Kupang who taught by using Probing-Prompting based culture learning model contains 24 people. The kind of this research method is pre-experiment with one group pretest-posttest design. The design use one group which is given a pretest, before do the treatment. After done the treatment the group will be give a posstest. So that, the result is more accurate due to comparing the result before the treatment with after the treatment. The data used in this study is the pretest and posttest of sample class. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 22. Prior to testing hypotheses, test prerequisites using the data value pretest and posttest to see the data distribution of each test. From the analysis of the data obtained pretest value Sig. (2-tailed) = 0,200 > 0,05 dan Dcount = 0,121 < Dtable = 0,269 then accept Ho which means normally distributed data. Next calculate the average difference value and pretest posttest to test the hypothesis by using a paired sample t-test. Having analyzed the data obtained by the Sig.(2-tailed) = 0,000 < 0,05 and tcount = 39,594 > ttable = 2,069 then Ha accepted and Ho rejected. So it is concluded that there is significant influence learning model of Probing-Prompting based culture in mathematics achievement of students in the subject sub cube and cuboid concept of class VIII A SMPK St. Theresia Kupang on 2016/2017 academic year. Therefore, the researcher suggest for teachers to use the model of Probing-Prompting based culture as one of learning models in the classroom according to the material that will be taught for meaningful learning.
