Abstract

Problems of this research are; (1) what are the Prime Sectors in Kota Kupang? (2) how to classify Economic Growth and Income per capita in Kota Kupang based on Klassen Typology. The goal of this research is to find out economic prime sectors and the classification of economic growth and incoming per capita in Kota Kupang based on the Klassen Typology. LQ – Analysis in 2013 - 2016 shown that economic base sectors in Kota Kupang stay on the same proportion where – from the 11 economic sectors that built up PDRB of Kota Kupang; Agriculture, Silviculture, Fishery, Mining and Disinterment are categorized as non-base sectors and on the other hands Manufactures Industries; Electric and Gas Supply, Water Supply, Rubbish – Waste and RecycleManagement, Construction, Macro and Micro Commerce, Transportation and Warehousing, Information and Communication, Renting and Serving Company are categorized as base sectors or based on LQ Analysis they are bigger than 1. Otherwise, in 2012, those 11 sectors were categorized as non-base economic sectors as their LQ value were 0,9 or approaching the base category in which some of it were approaching beyond 1 point. Based on Klassen Typology, - viewing from economic growth indicators and income per capita, in the period of 2012 – 2016, Electric Supply tend to be fluctuated as it is shown in the list that in 2012 this sector was categorized as Advance but in 2013 to 2016 it was dropped among Advance but Suppressed to Relatively Under-Developed. From the analysis by making use those 2 methods above, it can be concluded that the sector in which always come to be the Prime / Base Sector and categorized as Advance Sector in Kota Kupang in the period of 2012 – 2016 are Water Supply, Rubbish Waste and Recycle Management, Information and Communication, and Electric and Gas Supply. It means that those sectors are not only came to occupy the demand of the region but also have the ability to fulfill the demand that come from outside of the region and it is potentially developed and has high growth and income so it could support upgrading the PDRB in Kota Kupang.
