Abstract
Mixed ensemble music is the performance of a number of different musical instruments played together by a group of people to create a unique and rich sound. Mixed ensemble music is also often used to perform a song. Some students in various high schools in Kupang City have been taught how to play ensemble music, but students at SMA Sta. Familia Kupang have not received lessons in mixed ensemble, and therefore do not possess the ability to play it. The main problem in this study is how to effectively teach mixed ensemble music using the Ana Sai Nabe song model to Grade XI students at SMA Sta. Familia Sikumana Kupang? The aim of this research is to find effective steps in teaching mixed ensemble music using the Ana Sai Nabe song model to Grade XI students at SMA Sta. Familia Sikumana Kupang. This research uses a qualitative approach with a classroom action research method. Data were collected using observation and interview techniques and analyzed qualitatively. The research subjects consisted of 8 students from Grade XI in the Science and Social Sciences programs. The results of the study show that the effective steps in teaching mixed ensemble music to Grade XI students at SMA Sta. Familia Sikumana Kupang are as follows: 1) recruiting students as research subjects and determining the types of musical instruments that will be used in the ensemble learning activities, namely pianica, recorder, guitar, and tambourine; 2) training students to play ensemble instruments with the Ana Sai Nabe song model repeatedly in 8 learning sessions, guided by the etudes prepared by the researcher; 3) the researcher conducting periodic evaluations. Based on the final evaluation results, it can be concluded that all eight student subjects were able to play mixed ensemble music with the Ana Sai Nabe song model, although not yet perfectly. The researcher suggests that the Art and Culture teacher continuously trains students so that they have adequate skills in playing mixed ensemble music.
