Abstract

It aims at answering the following questions:(1)what are the types of grammatical errors that might be committed by the eighth grade students of SMPK Sta. Maria Assumpta Kupang in the school year 2018/2019 in writing descriptive text? And (2) what is the most common grammatical error committed by the eighth grade students of SMPK Sta. Maria Assumpta Kupang in the school year 2018/2019 in writing descriptive text? The objectives of the study are as follows: (1)To find out the types of grammatical errors that might be committed by the eighth grade students of SMPK Sta. Maria Assumpta Kupang in the school year 2018/2019 in writing descriptive text.(2).To find out the most common grammatical error committed by the eighth grade students of SMPK Sta. Maria Assumpta Kupang in the school year 2018/2019 in writing descriptive text. In this study the writer used descriptive method. The subject of the study was the eighth grade students of SMPK Sta. Maria Assumpta Kupang in class 8a. The total number of the eighth grade students was 27. The writer took 20 students as the sample of the study. In the collecting the data, writer asked the students to write down a Descriptive text consisting of 3 or more paragraphs.The result of the study shows that the students made errors in Omission 89 or (57.79%), Addition 11 or (7.14%), Misformation 50 or (32.47%), and Misordering 6 or (3.90%).The most grammatical error committed by the students was Omission 89(57.79%). Based on the result of the study, the suggestion might be as follows: (1) The teacher should give more emphasis on grammatical aspect especially in using simple present tenseauxiliary verb, pronoun, plural and singular, article, preposition,punctuation,capitalletter also how to make good sentence because the students still lack of knowledge in these part.(2) The eighth grade students of SMPK Sta. Maria Assumpta Kupang should learn more how to write a good text especially in using simple present tense,auxiliary verb, pronoun, plural and singular, article, preposition,punctuation,capital letter also how to make good sentence.
