Abstract
Transportation has an important role in human life because it has a big influence on individuals, community development and social politics. However, transportation itself has various problems, such as traffic disruption which results in congestion or traffic jams. This is because movement needs are developing rapidly while transportation facilities and infrastructure are developing so slowly that they cannot keep up. One of the public transportation systems in Kupang City is public transportation. Public transportation has become a major need to support daily life for most people in Kupang City. The position of public transportation as a primary need causes the large number of public transportation vehicles in Kupang City. However, this is not in accordance with its capacity, which often causes traffic jams in Kupang City. These problems have caused many impacts and losses in various fields, especially in the economic sector. The development in Kupang City, especially on Jalan Siliwangi, Lahilai Bissi Kopan, Kota Lama District, is the construction of shopping centers and tourist attractions so that many vehicles pass through this road, both private vehicles and public transportation, so they often experience problems with crowding or traffic jams during busy hours. -certain hours. Based on the results of a research survey from the author for 6 days on Jalan Siliwangi, Kupang City from 17 April - 22 April 2023, the influence of public transport behavior on traffic congestion can be seen from the results of peak traffic volume density, speed, side obstacles and level of road service. The traffic volume density occurred on Saturday, April 22 2023 with a peak density of 182.4 pcu/hour. And the average speed results at the time of observation had a maximum speed at point A = 12.58 km/hour which occurred on April 18 2023 and point B = 13.12 km/hour on Tuesday April 18 2023. Meanwhile, side obstacles on public transportation The maximum occurred on Monday, April 17 2023, at point A = 38.6 event weight and point B = 38.1 event weight with the side resistance class being Very Low (VL). Even though the level of side obstacles is very low and the Degree of Saturation (DS) obtained is A, because the speed of public transportation is too low, it results in traffic jams on the road.
