Abstract
The involvement of women in politics in Indonesia is an effort to build democracy in a country through political participation and balanced representation. The basic concept of democracy is the concept of political participation, which also includes aspects of women's involvement. Based on the General Election Implementation Law no. 10 of 2008, members of the DPR, DPRD and DPRD have more time to maximize their election goals compared to previous political party administrators. This research aims to identify and explain the position of women in the Ngada Regency legislative body in the 2019 Election as well as the factors that influence this position. Data and information were collected from primary and secondary data through interviews, documentation and field observations. The qualitative descriptive method aims to be used in this research. Theories about political participation, women's politics, and models of political representation are used in this research. The study authors found a number of factors contributed to the decline in women's representation in the 2019 elections. For example, religion and ethnicity were not taken into consideration by the public when selecting women in Descriptive Representation. On the other hand, society is prejudiced against education and the way it acts to accept and fight for society's aspirations. In Substantive Representation, there are no regional regulations governing adoptive husbands and child mothers, and women's rights and gender equality are still less of a priority. Furthermore, the gap in women's participation in legislative candidacy is caused by socio-economic, socio-cultural factors and the lack of political cadres. Therefore, the elements of descriptive, symbolic, substantive representation and political challenges greatly influence the number of women represented in elections and nominations.
