Abstract
This study is entitled “Application of Character Education Development Management of Students in SMPK Sta. Theresia Kupang”. The study was conducted and written by Yohana Elu with Register Number of 81122027 MM and supervised by Dr. Stanis Man, SE., M.Si and Dr. Drs. Kletus Erom, M. Hum. The study lasted for six months, precisely from January until June 2024. Character is personal quality of someone in terms of good or bad. Character education is an effort of performing values of life to someone. Character education to students is an effort of good values given by an education institution to students. Such an effort by the school can be smooth and challenging. The education institution of SMPK Sta. Theresia Kupang also performs character education program for its students. The topic of the study is specified into two research problems formulated as follows. (1) How to implement character education development management of students in SMPK Sta. Theresia Kupang? (2) What are the solutions for overcoming the challenges to character education development management of the students in SMPK Sta. Theresia Kupang? This study belongs to qualitative. Data analysis was narratively described. The data were collected by doing observations, interviews, and document checks. The data was analyzed through the steps of data reduction, data presentation, and data verification. The subject acted as informants included the principal, the vice principal on curriculum, the vice principal on students, the vice principal on facilities and infrastructures, the teacher of Catholic Religion, the teacher of Civics, the teacher of Counselling, the Supervision of the Students Intraschool Organization, and four students. Data analysis found the following facts. (1) The implementation of character education development management of students in SMPK Sta. Theresia Kupang was integrated in three main school activities: teaching-learning, extracurriculars, and living cultivation and accustomed. (2) The implementation of character education development management of students in SMPK Sta. Theresia Kupang included planning, organizing, coordinating, performing, and controlling. The planning of character education development management was done at the beginning of the school year. The planning of the management goes in line and in accordance with the Vision, Mission, and Aim of the institution, the teachers’ competence, the contribution of the society, the school cultivation programs, sense of togetherness among the school personals, facilities and infrastructures, and environment. The achievement of the programs can be seen on the Learning Achievement Standard of the students. The students fill satisfied and have good character, in terms of discipline, diligent, obedient, respects for teachers and peers. The students have high capabilities in academic and nonacademic lives. Although the implementation of character education development management has well achieved, the recommendation keeps being addressed to the principal, vice principals, teachers, parents, families, and the societies to work together for achieving and keeping the glorious idea of character education in SMPK Sta. Theresia Kupang.
