Abstract
One of the most important parts of human life is music. So in the 2013 elementary school curriculum and previous curricula, there are arts and culture subjects which include learning traditional music arts. East Manggarai is one of the districts in the province of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) which is rich in cultural diversity. Through this diversity, the identity of Manggarai culture will be reflected indirectly. Gongs and drums are cultural heritage and symbols of the customs of the Colol village community. Therefore, the residents of Colol village must pay attention to and take good care of the important assets owned by the village and need to be maintained and improved so that they become a legacy for future generations. Gongs and drums are some examples of traditional musical instruments used in various regions in Indonesia, including in Colol village. The drum musical instrument is often considered a sacred musical instrument for the Manggarai people. The children of SDI Wae Nunung as heirs in Colol village have a great ability to understand, maintain and develop this traditional musical art. Learning gongs and drums using takitu rhythms as accompaniment to the caci dance can help introduce local culture and also improve their motor skills and creativity. The problem raised in this research is how efforts are being made to improve gong and drum learning for class V students at SDI Wae Nunung and what are the benefits of learning gong and drums for class V students at SDI Wae Nunung. This research explains how to improve the basic technique of playing the Gong Gendang musical instrument using the imitation and drill method for fifth grade students at SDI Wae Nunung
