Abstract
This research aims to know what are the strategies in expressing requests in the Kawela language. Language is a complex means of communication, and its use reflects the culture and social norms of a society. One important aspect of everyday communication is the expression of requests, which often reflects social interactions and the level of respect within a community. This study involved text analysis in the form of question sheets completed by Kawela speakers and interviews with native Kawela speakers, to identify variations in forms of request expression and understand the social and cultural context in which they are used. It is hoped that the results of this research will provide a deeper understanding of how the Belabaja-Labalimut (Boto) community conveys requests, as well as the cultural factors that influence the choice of these expressions. The research method used involves collecting data through participant observation, interviews, and text analysis. Analysis is carried out by paying attention to sentence structure, use of keywords, and the social context of the request expression. It is hoped that the findings from this research will provide new insights in the development of Kawela language teaching programs and increase intercultural understanding in everyday communication.
