Abstract

Catechesis activities for the faithful play an important role in the Church as it helps to proclaim the Word of God and deepen faith. Through catechesis, individuals are united in groups to explore the Word of God and relate it to daily life experiences, which help nurture faith. For the success of catechesis, skilled facilitators available in sufficient numbers are needed to assist the various community groups. An initial survey conducted in Parish of St. Francis Xavier Fatuoni showed a need for more qualified catechesis facilitators, which led to inadequate service to the community groups. Furthermore, the faithful also needed a comprehensive understanding of the significance of catechesis in spiritual growth. To address these needs, the community service team from the Faculty of Philosophy organized a catechesis facilitator training activity in Parish. The objective of this initiative was to train both experienced facilitators and new volunteers were willing to become catechesis facilitators. The implementation method was training. Training methods included materials, in-depth Q&A sessions, group activities, and pre-tests and post-tests. After the training, participants gained adequate knowledge about catechesis. Meanwhile, catechetical skills can be observed through group activities, but they still need to be proven in field practice. The importance of this service is to help the growth of the people's faith through the guidance of God's Word with the availability of skilled catechesis facilitators.
