Abstract

Kupang city, as the administrative center of east nusa tenggara province, continues to develop both administratively and economically. Amid the rapid pace of modernization, preserving local cultural values has become an essential aspect of public building design, including the redesign of the office of education and culture of east nusa tenggara province. This office plays a crucial role in fostering the education sector and ensuring the sustainability of regional cultural heritage. The redesign initiative responds to the need for improved functionality, comfort, and workspace efficiency due to the increasing demands of tasks and public services. This redesign aims to create a more effective and collaborative work environment, aligned with contemporary building standards that emphasize accessibility and aesthetic values rooted in local culture. The vernacular architectural approach serves as the primary strategy in this redesign, integrating elements of dawan culture as a representation of east nusa tenggara's unique identity. This approach aligns with the concept of sustainable development, which places local wisdom and culture at the core of design. This study specifically examines the application of dawan vernacular architectural elements in the redesign of the office of education and culture of east nusa tenggara province in kupang city.
