Abstract

The study on the Implementation of Neo-Classical Architectural Elements in the Design of the Cathedral Church of the Diocese of Labuan Bajo located in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai Regency, applies a mixed study approach that combines quantitative and qualitative research techniques. The application of this mixed methodology is carried out simultaneously with the intention of providing a mutually supportive picture of the results of the observed phenomenon study and strengthening the research analysis process. This study will conduct a thorough measurement and analysis of various aspects to measure the mass of church buildings in the diocese of Labuan Bajo, so as to use a quantitative approach. Furthermore, this research also carried out field observations to study various kinds of documents, decorative elements, ornaments, photo recordings, and artifacts in the Labuan Bajo cathedral area by applying a qualitative methodology. This study uses a descriptive approach in its implementation. The data collection approach in this research is adapted based on the required data categories, namely primary data and secondary data. The main information was obtained through a question and answer technique to understand the historical background of the existence of the cathedral church of the diocese of Labuan Bajo and explore the spiritual values contained in the physical form of the cathedral building. In addition, the interview also aims to gain an understanding of the characteristics of the location, topographic conditions, geological aspects, architectural expression, placement of architectural components, ornamental and decorative elements of the church, selection of construction materials, visitor movement patterns, vehicle circulation routes, and various other related aspects. This research can hone the author's architectural skills in a case study of church buildings with a neoclassical approach. As well as the cathedral building of the Diocese of Labuan Bajo with a neoclassical approach in this study is expected to be used as one of the architectural considerations in designing a building, especially the cathedral church building of the Diocese of Labuan Bajo, Manggarai Barat Regency.
