Abstract

This study aims to analyze students' creativity in solving word problems on fractions in Grade VII at SMPK Adisucipto Kupang in the 2024/2025 academic year. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach involving three students selected based on their mathematics proficiency: high, medium, an d low. Data were collected through open-ended word problem tests, in-depth interviews, and observations. Students' creativity was analyzed based on three indicators: fluency, flexibility, and originality. The results show that high-ability students fulfilled all three creativity indicators well. Medium-ability students fulfilled the fluency and flexibility indicators, while low-ability students were unable to adequately meet any of the indicators. The study concludes that students’ mathematical proficiency levels influence their creativity in solving word problems, particularly in the topic of fractions.
