Abstract
This research is entitled “An Analysis of Grammatical Writing Errors in Descriptive Text made by the Eighth-Grade Students of SMP Negeri 10 Kupang”. This research was conducted to answer the following questions: (1) What types of grammatical errors are made by the students in descriptive writing? (2) What is the most common grammatical error made by eighth-grade students in descriptive writing? The aims of this study were to (1) find out the types of grammatical error made by students in descriptive writing and (2) find out the most common grammatical error made by eighth-grade students in descriptive writing. The researcher used the Qualitative method. The subject of this research was class VIII I students at SMP Negeri 10 Kupang. They consist of 30 students as the research sample. The results of the analysis showed that (1) class VIII I students of SMP Negeri 10 Kupang Made grammatical errors in Omission 189 (47%), Addition 32 (7%), Misformation 176 (43%), and Misordering 5 (1%). (2) It is obvious that the most common error is Omission 189 (47%). Based on these results, the researcher would like to suggest that: 1. English teachers must be creative in explaining or teaching grammar well and clearly so that students can easily understand it. 2. English teachers should include English writing exercises that can improve the ability to write, especially in the use of article, verbs, or auxiliary verbs, prepositions, plural nouns, regular forms, irregular verbs and correct spelling.
