Abstract
This study aims to describe the reasoning of students in solving mathematical story problems in terms of the level of mathematical ability. This type of research is qualitative research. The subjects of this study were chosen based on the results of discussions with subject teachers. The research subjects used in this study were three students drawn from 31 students, each of whom had high, medium and low mathematical abilities. The results of this study are (1) subjects with high mathematical ability in solving problems of story problems in the Linear Equation System of Two Variables reaching five indicators of reasoning ability, namely representing ideas (making sense), making strategies (conjecturing), implementing strategies (convincing), re-evaluating ( reflecting), generalizing conclusions (generalising). (2) the subject of mathematical ability is in solving the problem of the problem story of the Linear Equation System of Two Variables reaching four indicators of reasoning ability,namely representing ideas (making sense), making strategies (conjecturing), implementing strategies (convincing), and generalizing conclusions (generalising). (3) subjects with low mathematical ability in solving problems of story problems in the Linear Equation System of Two Variables achieve two indicators of reasoning ability, namely representing ideas (sense-making) and making strategies (conjecturing)
