Abstract

Emotional intelligence and learning motivation play a role in achieving student achievement in school. Emotional intelligence directly affects the mastery of mathematical concepts. Students who are emotionally intelligent have the ability to motivate themselves well, can control their emotions so they are able to focus their attention on mathematics. High potential is needed by students to understand complex mathematical material and generally be pleased with abstract ideas that are systematically arranged and require high mental activity. The higher the level of emotional intelligence and motivation to learn that a person has, the higher the expected results. And vice versa, the lower the level of emotional intelligence possessed by someone in participating in learning activities, the expected learning achievement results will be lower. Motivation plays an important role in the success of the learning process at school. With the motivation for learning, the purpose of learning becomes clear. Emotional intelligence and strong learning motivation, will determine a person's positive attitude, very high motivation to learn, the ability to see problems with mental spaciousness, the ability to overcome various internal conflicts and external conflicts, the ability to overcome failure and ultimately achieve success and have a strong drive to do learning activities. Emotional intelligence and strong learning motivation, will be able to make students highly motivated in learning and liked by friends and teachers. The purpose of writing this scientific paper is to reveal the importance of emotional intelligence and learning motivation in learning mathematics in school.
