Abstract
The method used in this research is quantitative descriptive method. The purpose of this study is to find out whether students are able to acquire mastery of their English vocabulary. The subjects of this study were students of class VIII SMP Negeri 11 Kupang, totaling 15 people. The instrument used by the author to compile the data is to give tests to students and they are asked to work on test questions prepared by researchers based on the sources of English textbooks they study at school. Then the researcher copied the data obtained after collecting the results of the students worksheets, then the researchers examined and analyzed the data. This study found that students are generally most familiar with the domain of the transportation and the domain of animals. The less familiar for them are domain of food. But on the other hand in students are not familiar to the domain related to the plant.
