Abstract
This research aims to determine the learning obstacles associated with the rectangular material. The participants in this research were seventh grade students of SMPK ST. Yoseph Kupang and mathematics teacher. This research uses a qualitative method of the Didactical Design Research (DDR) model and triangulation techniques (interviews, observations, and documentation). Data collection techniques in this research used interviews, observations, documentation and tests. This research uses three stages of analysis, namely, prospective analysis, metapedadidactic analysis, and restropective analysis. The data were analyzed to determine the learning barriers that occur in students. The results showed that students experienced three learning barriers, namely, ontogenic obstacle, didactical obstacle and epistemological obstacle.
