Abstract

his study aims to analyze the difficulty analysis of understanding the concept of the Pythagorean Theorem in Class VIII students of SMP Negeri Bokong in solving the Pythagorean Theorem problems. In determining the process of understanding the concept of students, Polya uses 4 steps, namely: understanding the problem, making a problem-solving plan, implementing a problem-solving plan, and re-examining the qualitative descriptive. This research is descriptive research. Data collection was carried out by giving problem solving tests and interviews after completing the questions. To test the credibility of the data, time triangulation was performed. This data analysis was carried out in 3 stages, namely data reduction, data presentation and data inference. The results showed that students who have academic abilities are able to express things that are known and developed elsewhere so that they can be concluded well. Meanwhile, subjects with moderate academic ability are able to understand the problem but are wrong in applying the concept so that errors occur in the process. Meanwhile, subjects who have low ability in solving problems have not been able to understand about so they are not able to solve problems properly and precisely.
