Abstract

Mathematical creative thinking ability is the ability to compile information obtained to generate ideas or ideas in solving problems and even finding alternative solutions and new ways appropriately in the form of ideas, concepts, and knowledge. Mathematical creative thinking ability is one of the most important abilities for students. One of the factors that affect the ability to think creatively mathematically is the cognitive style of each student. The purpose of this study was to analyze the mathematical creative thinking skills possessed by students based on Field Dependent (FD) and Field Independent (FI) cognitive styles with a focus on flat shapes. This type of research is a qualitative research. The subject of this research is class VIII SMP Negeri Bokong. Methods of collecting data using test and interview techniques using GEFT test items, mathematical creative thinking ability test instruments, and interview guidelines. The data that has been collected is then analyzed through 3 stages, namely data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that overall Field Independent students were able to solve problems better and had a higher level of mathematical creative thinking skills than Field Dependent students.
