Abstract

In general, the people of Gulung village sing Riang Di'a sanda in the traditional penti ceremony because the sung poetry contains advice, moral teachings, gratitude, social and ethical issues for the community. The Sanda Riang Di'a is song spontaneously according to the traditional ceremony that is being carried out. For the Manggarai community, the song of Riang Di'a is not just a cultural aesthetic, but also has an important cultural message. The problem raised in this study is what is the meaning and function of Riang Di'a's singing in the traditional penti ceremony of the community in Gulung village, North Satarmese District, Manggarai Regency. This study aims to determine the meaning and function of the cheerful song Riang Dia in the traditional penti ceremony of the community in Gulung Village, North Satarmese District, Manggarai Regency. This research is qualitative, the method used is ethnography. The method of obtaining data is through library research and field studies through interviews and documentation. The results showed that the Riang Di'a sanda song in the traditional penti ceremony of the community in Gulung village, North Satarmese District, Manggarai Regency was related to a moral message regarding the invitation of all people to maintain and preserve the Manggarai tradition as an ancestral heritage. The meaning of the song "Sanda Merry Di'a" contains the Lawe Lenggong verse which is likened to a banyan tree that continues to grow and become a shade for all communities as well as bind the unity of all its citizens in order to maintain and maintain the existence of the Manggarai tradition. The song Riang Di'a serves to be a means of maintaining brotherhood and friendship between others. Sanda Riang Di'a is a spontaneous song without accompaniment that is closely related to the feelings of the community. Custom is the identity of a nation, because custom is closely related to everyday life. Sanda Riang Di'a needs to be preserved because the meaning and function of the song reminds us to always maintain customs.
