Abstract

This thesis is entitled “An Analysis of Grammatical Errors in Writing Recount Text made by the Tenth Grade students of SMA Negeri Benlutu in the School Year 2014/2015. It was conducted to answer the following questions: (1). What kinds of errors are made in writing a recount text by the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri Benlutu? (2). what are the most common errors made in writing recount text by the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri Benlutu? The objectives of the study are to know the kinds of errors made in writing a recount text by the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri Benlutu and to know the most common errors made in writing a recount text by the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri Benlutu. The subjects of this study were 20 students in class X.1 with the total number of students are 25. In getting the data, the writer use descriptive method. This method aims to describe the errors made by the students. The writer gave the topics and students chose and constructed it into a good composition. The results of the study are: (1) The grammatical errors committed by the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri Benlutu in the school year 2014/2015 in writing were: 79 (53.38%) misformation, 47(31.78%) omission, 12 (8.10%) addition, and 10 (6.76%) misordering. (2) The most common errors committed in writing a recount text by the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri Benlutu was misformation with the total number of errors were 79 (53.38%). Based the result of the data analysis, the writer suggests: (1)For the students, they should learn more on how to write a good writing especially in writing recount text focusing on the structure and to pay more attention to the tense used to tell something that already happened. (2) For the teachers of the researched school that they should teach the students on how to compose a good writing especially in writing recount text and to pay more attention on students‟ grammar, vocabulary and structure used in the text.
