Abstract

The title of this Thesis is; AN ANALYSIS ON THE GRAMMATICAL ERRORS IN RECOUNT TEXTS WRITTEN BY THE ELEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMA BERINGIN KUPANG IN THE SCHOOL YEAR OF 2014 / 2015. The study is conducted to answer the following questions: (1) What are types of grammatical errors written by the eleventh grade students of SMA BeringinKupang in writing recount text? (2) What is the most frequent type of grammatical errors written by the eleventh grade students of SMA BeringinKupang in writing recount text?Based on the problems of statement above, the objectives of the study were: (1) To describe types of grammatical errors committed by the eleventh grade students of SMA Beringin Kupang in writing recount text, (2) To describe the most types of grammatical errors written by the eleventh grade students of SMA Beringin Kupang in writing recount text.The subjects of this study are 10 students of the eleventh grade students of SMA Beringin Kupang, especially science class. The method applied in this study was descriptive method and the instrument used was writing task. The students were given chance to write recount text based on their own topic. The taxonomy used by the writer in analyzing the data was surface strategy taxonomy, consisting of omission, addition, misordering and misformation. The result of the analysis showed that the errors written by the eleventh grade students of SMA Beringin Kupang in the school year 2014/2015 were misformation 31, omission 7, addition 3 and misordering 2 The total number of error was 43.The most grammatical error made by students was misformation. Based on the result of this study, the following was the suggestions for the teacher: the teacher should teach the students on how to write a good text especially in writing recounttext and give the students chance to learn more about how to write a good text and focus on grammar especially tenses and subject verb agreement.
