Abstract
Thesis title: The influence of emotional intelligence on students' social adjustment (quantitative descriptive study of class VIII B students at Santa Familia Catholic Middle School, Kupang, academic year 2022/2023. The problem in this research is whether there is an influence of emotional intelligence on the social adjustment of class VIII B students at Santa Familia Catholic Middle School Familia Kupang forthe 2022/2023 school year? The aim of the research is to determine the influence of emotional intelligence on the social adjustment of class VIII B students at Santa Familia Catholic Middle School Kupang for the 2022/2023 school year. This research uses quantitative descriptive methods with data collection tools in the form of questionnaires. The variables in this study are the independent variable (X) Emotional Intelligence and the dependent variable (Y) Social Adjustment. The sample in this study was all students in class VIII B of Santa Familia Catholic Middle School,Kupang, academic year 2022/2023, totaling 27 people. The results of the study show the value tcount > ttable (3.811 > 2.059).Based on the research results it can be concluded that there is an influence of emotional intelligence on the social adjustment of class VIII B students at SMPK St. Familia Kupang for the 2022/2023 school year. Based on the results of this research, the researcher provides suggestions to: 1) The principal as the school leader is expected to be able to coordinate with the guidance and counseling teacher and all school personnel in order to help students improve their emotional intelligence so that they can make good social adjustments. 2) The guidance and counseling teacher is expected to be able to prepare and develop guidance and counseling programs, especially those related to emotional intelligence and social adjustment, in order to help students in need. 3) Students are expected to be able to actively participate in taking part in counseling guidance services carried out by guidance and counseling teachers to help students increase emotional intelligence so that they can make social adjustments
