Abstract

This research is a qualitative research conducted in class VII of SMPK St. Theresia in the 2023/2024 school year. The purpose of this study was to describe the profile of the ability of seventh grade students in solving story problems on whole number material. The research subjects consisted of one student with high mathematics ability (ST), one student with moderate mathematics ability (SS), and one student with low mathematics ability (SR). The research instrument consists of the main instrument, namely the researcher himself, and supporting instruments, namely the test of solving math story problems on integers, and interview guidelines. The triangulation used is using triangulation techniques by comparing test results and interviews. The results showed that (1) in questions number 1 and 2 students with high mathematical ability could meet four indicators, namely understanding the problem, translating the problem into a mathematical model, solving the mathematical model, and determining the answer to the problem in the story problem; (2) students with moderate mathematical ability at number 1 were able to understand the problem, but had not been able to translate the problem into a mathematical model, solve the mathematical model and obtain an answer to the problem while at number 2 students with moderate mathematical ability were able to achieve four indicators, namely understanding the problem, translating the problem into a mathematical model, solving the mathematical model, and determining the answer to the problem in the story problem. (3) students with low mathematical ability in numbers 1 and 2 have not been able to fulfill four indicators, namely understanding the problem, translating the problem into a mathematical model, solving the mathematical model and obtaining answers to problems in the problem so that the results obtained are wrong.
