Abstract

Basically, the ability of directing techniques is very important and must be owned by everyone in leading a choir. When the 7th graders of Nian State Satap Junior High School were entrusted with directing, they were not able to directing the rhythmic pattern in accordance with the song text, lacked assertiveness in leading the choir, and the insseting or preliminary movement when starting singing was not clear and lacked self-confidence. On this basis, the researcher conducted a study entitled Efforts to Improve the Ability to Directing 4/4 Bar Patterns Using The Teacher's Hymn Song Model Through the Imitation Method and Drill Method for 7th Graders of Nian State Satap Junior High School. The problem in this study is how to improve the ability to directing 4/4 bar patterns with the Teacher's Hymn song model through the imitation method and the drill method for 7th Graders of Nian State Satap Junior High School in Central Miomafo Sub-District, North Central Timor District. This research uses a qualitative approach, with the Field Action method. To obtain data, observation, interview and documentation techniques were used. The results of this study show that the implementation of efforts to improve the ability to directing using three stages, namely the early stage of recruiting members, the main stage with eight meetings, namely the first meeting explaining the material (understanding of directing and directing techniques), then training in 4/4 bar directing patterns by paying attention to tempo and dynamics, then the final stage of research which is displaying the results of the training process. In the learning process, the researcher found some difficulties, especially related to hand patterns, facial expressions and tempo. To solve these difficulties, the researcher gave examples to the participants to imitate and train repeatedly. With this method, it is proven that the students of Nian State Satap Junior High School Grade 7 can directing well and correctly.
