Abstract
A mixed ensemble in keroncong playing is a musical group involving traditional and modern types of instruments, which produces distinctive harmonies in the kroncong style including the Cak, Cuk, Bass Guitar, Pianika, Recorde and Kajon musical instruments. The problem raised in this research is what is the process of learning mixed ensemble music through imitation and drill methods in the song Bengawan Solo using the keroncong style for Semester IV Students of Unwira Kupang Music Education. The aim of this research is to determine the process of learning keroncong techniques in mixed ensemble music playing the song Bengawan Solo for students in the fourth semester of Unwira Kupang Music Education. This research is qualitative in nature, the method used is the field action method. To obtain data, library study and field study techniques were used which included interview observation and documentation. The results of the research show that the process of learning keroncong style ensemble music, the song Bengawan Solo for students of the Unwira Kupang fourth semester music study program was carried out in three stages, namely the initial stage in the form of recruiting students participating in learning kroncong music, the core stage starting from providing an explanation accompanied by examples of the unique patterns the kroncong game on the cak and cuk instruments, followed by an explanation of the musical role of another instrument, namely the pianika, playing the main melody (cf), the recorder plays contra melody and filer, cak and cuk as accompaniment, plays the kroncong playing pattern, the bass guitar plays bass notes and also regulates the tempo of the game, while the kajon controls the rhythm pattern. Next, the progression of chords to accompany the song Bengawan Solo is explained, then the students are divided into instrument groups based on their musical roles, followed by practicing each instrument according to the division of roles, the process is carried out repeatedly, preceded by examples by the trainer. After each instrument has mastered its part, the next turn is to practice together in the form of a mixed ensemble. In the final stage, the results are recorded. Based on the results of this research, it was concluded that through repeated practice, followed by examples, students were finally able to play the Bengawan Solo song in keroncong style, although it was not perfect. For this reason, it is recommended that music study program students need to be equipped with the kroncong style of playing through extracurricular activities according to their interests.
