Abstract

This research is entitled "The Effectiveness of Using Local Short Story to Increase Students Vocabulary Acquisition of X Grade Students of SMA Seminari St. Rafael Oepoi in the School Year 2023/2024 ". The research questions was: 1) is the use of local short story effective to improve the vocabulary of ten grade students of SMA Seminari St. Rafael Oepoi? This study aims to find out the effectiveness of using local short stories in improving the vocabulary of ten grade students of SMA Seminari St. Rafael Oepoi. This research employed a quantitative approach. The instrument used in this research were pre-test and post-test test and some local short stories from NTT as the sources for the treatments. The findings of this research indicate that the use of local short stories is effective to increase vocabulary of ten grade students’ of SMA Seminari St. Rafael Oepoi. This can be proved from the difference between students mean score of the pre-test and the mean score of the post-test. Students seem to be always involved in the lesson when researcher uses local short stories. In addition, giving local short stories makes them interested in learning English. The results showed that the score in the students post-test results was higher than the score of students pre-test results after being given the treatments. This research has implication to the students to find an interesting way of learning English vocabulary. The further research needs to be conducted more on local short stories from Indonesia.
